Welcome to my site. I have four main types of content, in various stages of (non)completion. It’s a bit of a mad scrabble to catch up, and to structure my site to look good. But it will happen. My projects to date are:
Research (academic stuff);
Non-fiction (not academic though);
Fiction (which has a very special place in my heart, and which I plan to devote most of my future to); and
Just-for-Fun stuff, such as movie and book reviews. Hey, I love to read, and I love to write, so why not write about what I read?
Although I will probably do a little more research, I’m more interested in achieving a fairly equal mix of the other types. It’s been extremely difficult to prioritize (choose between my darlings!), but there will be time for everything, eventually. First off, I’m totally excited to commit to my new Nerdy Swot non-fiction project first. That involves developing a lot of website content as well as a book: How to be a Nerdy Swot. Next off the rank will be an apocalyptic novel.
This, phase 3 of my career trajectory, brings together all my experiences in the arts industry (more than a decade in full-time professional theater) and more than a decade as a business school academic. I’ve hit my zone, and it already feels like this is what everything else has been preparing me for.
My academic research fundamentally dealt with how people deal with Fake News and Alternate Facts. There’s so much that can be done with it at this time in history that my mind boggles! My favorite subject to teach was Risk Management, and I’ve been a Certified Fraud Examiner since 2009, so I’d really like to develop the Resilience 101 site in future, with plenty of blogging about scams and other Alternate Fact topics.
One thing at a time though, right? This sudden freedom to do whatever I want, whenever I want, has me as hyped as a diet of Krispy Kremes would. It’s so good, but the last few months of fluffing around is proof that it’s better to slow down and actually finish things. One. At. A. Time.
Altogether, I have been at universities for 25 years, so in 2017 it was time to start making the best use of everything I’ve learned, experienced and done along the way: Paying it forward, in ways that are useful to others – and in collaborative and humorous ways. That’s why Nerdy Swot is project number 1.
I hope you join me in this journey. If you find something you like (or even that you disagree with) please post a comment, because:
