Nerdy Swot’s mission is to support everyone who loves learning by offering encouragement, making a collection of resources, building a community of learners and teachers, and creating a little culture of our own where learning is celebrated.
Nerdy Swot was created because there is a hole in western society: School is compulsory and we are nowadays all expected to attend higher education – and yet those who love learning are too often not actively encouraged to do their thing.
Some people want to learn so they can achieve great things; some want to create a stable or profitable future; and some go to university because they are unsure about what type of work they would like to do. Let’s talk about all that. Some don’t like learning at all, but the hope is that here they will find ways to make it more enjoyable and easy.
Some people want to learn just for the fun of it, and some consider becoming mature aged students. Mature aged students usually have a very different set of circumstances and experiences than school-leavers, but it’s never too late to start. I was a late starter, and I’m about to embark on a completely different degree, at 52, just for the fun of it. It’s all possible, one step at a time.
But the Nerdy Swot project is not about what I am doing. It is hoped that we will build a community together, on the project’s dedicated website and on its Nerdy Swot Facebook page. Every person (student or not) who is interested in learning is encouraged to post your ideas, achievements, content suggestions, problems, questions… and also reply to each other’s posts. Let’s share our journeys and celebrate becoming/being Nerdy Swots.
