The reviews in the Just for Fun section are all about Opinions. Mostly my opinions, but yours are invited too. And they really are just for fun.
You will see that most of the opinions already here are about fiction: Mini-reviews of novels read. So far, these are mostly disaster and post-apocalyptic genre tales, but there will no doubt be some exceptions to mix things up.
I’ve also written some mini-reviews of movies that fit (however loosely) into my favourite genre: disaster movies, of course.
The reason I like the disaster genre is not for the devastation, but because of the focus on resilience in the face of such overt devastation.
Of course there are other genres with the same type of themes, but their contexts are often too relatable, which is not always fun. If I want realism, I’d rather watch a documentary.
A unique feature of disaster movies is that they can be awful in terms of story, acting, etc… yet still be raved about by those who appreciate their extreme awfulness – me, for example. My friend (let’s call him Roger) and I take great pleasure from buying new masterpieces in dollar stores, and swapping back and forth from our personal libraries. Good stuff!
